Welcome to Tudor Hackney.

It's a country village with one main street, lots of cottages and market gardens, a number of elegant houses and a church.

Only a few hundred people live here - Clapton and Dalston are separate villages over the fields.

There's no street lighting, and it's dangerous to go out at night.

There are no police, but many rules and regulations, and people are paid to spy on each other.

Henry VIII is king, and although Hackney is far away from court, the changes that are happening there affect everyone's lives. Laws seem to change every week now, and the price of disobeying, or just not knowing, is terrifyingly high.

And sometimes great events happen in Hackney anyway.

Some Hackney children, their teachers and Clio's Company have been working together to bring 1530s Hackney back to life. Here is some of what we found out, created and imagined. We will be adding to the website over the next few months - please let us know what you think of it.
