Hackney Tudors

Tudor Hackney

About this site

This website has been set up as part of an ongoing project for Hackney children and their families.

Children from Rushmore Primary School took part in the pilot stage of the project in 2006, a partnership between the school, the Friends of St John at Hackney Churchyard Garden and Clio's Company. It was funded by a grant from HCVS. Read more about the Hackney Tudors project.

In 2007, the 500th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Sadleir, builder of Hackney's Sutton House, children from two local schools took part in a series of activities to celebrate. This partnership was between Rushmore and Grasmere Primary Schools and the Sutton House Society. The music, drama and art workshops were led by members of Passamezzo and Clio's Company. This project was funded by grants from Awards for All and the Goldsmith's Company's Charity.

The site now includes a historical map of Tudor Hackney. You can click within the circles on the map to find out more about some of the people and places. We will be adding more in the next stage of the project. You an also read all about Tudor Hackney.

In future phases of the project we hope that the site will become more interactive, with user generated content and forums.
